A long tail stretched from it's hiding place. It twirled ang waved like an ocean's tide, ebbing and flowing to and fro, beckoning. Mosy jumped at the chance, his hunger portrayed in his gleaming eyes and his hands, no, paws skittering across the rock face in his haste. He stopped just inches before it, sat on his raunches and cocked his head. It didn't look right, dismayed to find it was a clever snake's tail he skittered away again to another food source he'd spotted behind the fern.
Jeaney sighed and sat up from her position at the window. She had kinks in her neck from watching betweeen the curtains and the kitchen table all morning. She set her kaleidescope and mini-scope down. The kaleidescope was for the various plants she'd seen with crazy colors. The mini-scope, or mini telescope as was it's proper name, was for viewing little creatures in their wild habitat. She lived in Australia and it was always filled with adventurous pip-squeaks. The little ones were her favorite. She was fascinated by how creative they were and bold and how they were able to escape those bigger, meaner animals. Not all of them made it out of the big paws, but some did, and she loved them.
"Jeanette!" A voice full and round with a hint of mahogany called from below. Jeaney sighed and pushed herself off the edge. It was Mama calling her, only Mama stretched the 'Jean' in her name until she couldn't hear the 'nette' after. And besides, who could mistake her voice and accent?
"Coming, Mama!" She pitter-pattered down the stairs. Pitter-patter was a word Papa had made up and used for her easy scrambles across any surface. Nobody else she knew could pitter-patter like she could. She wondered when Papa was coming home.
"Jeanette! Where are you?" the voice called again. Jeaney rolled her eyes.
"I said, I was coming, Mama!" Jeaney finished the stairs, climbed up two more steps, and flung the door open. "It wasn't locked, Mama."
"Well, I couldn't well open the door with my feet, now could I?" Mama asked cryptically. She stepped over the threshold adn was held back by the doorframe. "Oh, goodness me!"
"It's you hat, Mama!" Jeaney carefully pulled the huge hat from her mother's blonde head. "Mama, are these real flowers?"
"Yes, Mr. Morris gave them to me. Thought I'd enjoy the sweet scent, he said. I put them in the hat for safe-keeping. I only have two arms." Jeaney grabbed the other bag of groceries. "You know, I think he has the sweets on me."
"Papa won't like that, Mama, not one bit at all. Besides, Calvin's a teenager. More like he wants tips from you, Mama. Did you give any to him?" Jeaney closed the refrigerator with a thump and Mama sat down on the couch.
"Yes, I did." Mama answered with her finger waving. Jeaney laughed.
"Mama, you know it's not said like that. It's 'yes, I did'!" Jeaney corrected. Mama shook her head.
"No, it's not." Jeaney cocked an eyebrow. "Ohh, not for me! You know I'm from Virginia, child!" Mama was from Virginaia, from Virgiania in the U.S. of A. and kept all the mannerisms. "come one, give me a kiss and go get that brother of yours." jeaney reached over to place eher lips against that plushy cheek and ran out the back door.
"Jon! Mama's home!"
